Wixel Android app Review

by March 27, 2010

Wixel is the Android version of the game Wuzzle that was created for the iPhone.  The Wixel Android app has a few different modes that you can participate in to be able to enjoy the game.  You can play against other people in an online multiplayer mode or you can compete in the Progressive mode in order to unlock different features and to see if you can outsmart the computer.

The premise of Wixel is very similar to Boggle or Scrabble in that you will have to solve word puzzles in order to get the most points and beat your opponents.  The game boasts over 180,000 different words in its dictionary and is actually very easy to pick up and get the hang out.  Essentially you are given a grid of different letters that you have to rearrange in order to create English words.  The key to the game is that you can start the word with any of the letters on the board but you have to connect it to an adjoining or connecting letter in order to keep forming words.  On top of that you can’t use the same letter block twice in any one single word.  You will get more points for getting bigger words.  Also, you want to try and get words that your opponent won’t think of so that you can guarantee yourself some points.

The game offers some very unique features including the ability to rotate the gameboard to look at the letters in a different light, or to customize how big the letter grids are.  There are many other features that you will be able to use as you mess with the settings and control panels.  The game offers a great user interface that is easy to use as you must slide your finger along the letters in order to create the words and enter them in to be judged for points.  The game also has some unique game modes in that the Progressive Mode requires you to find every single word combination before you can pass the board.  Overall, Wixel is one of the best word games on the Android.

Features:

  • Can customize the letter grids to be 5 by 5 or 4 by 4
  • There are a couple different modes including the Online Multiplayer and the Progressive Mode
  • Over 180,000 words in the app dictionary
  • Similar to Boggle and Scrabble

Overall:

Voted 4 out of 5 stars by Android app users and currently can be downloaded for $1.99.
